NGFA and NAEGA commend Senate Ag Committee for approving grain inspection bill
The legislation, which reauthorises the US Grain Standards Act through September 30, 2020, will provide for much needed continuity, predictability and ongoing improvement of the important services provided by the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS).


FDA publishes final food safety regulations for feed and grain
FSMA, signed into law in January 2011, grants FDA new regulatory responsibilities and requires it to undertake several new rulemakings that significantly affect the US food and feed system. The first court-ordered deadlines for final rules that include current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations that apply to animal feed and pet food, as well as preventive controls for both human food and animal feed, were due August 30.


Safe Trucking Act would mean more efficient grain transportation
Under the bill, states could increase truck weight limits on Interstate System highways within their borders to 91,000 pounds as long as those trucks are equipped with an additional sixth axle. The federal weight limit for Interstate highways has been set at 80,000 pounds since 1982.

NGFA Urges Obama Administration to drop requests for fees to fund FSMA implementation
In a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell and Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan, NGFA and 63 other organisations said food safety programs and inspections conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should be financed through appropriated funds.

NGFA outlines priorities for a multi-year highway bill
The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) sent a letter to members of the House of Representatives urging them to pass multi-year surface transportation legislation that provides adequate funding and certainty for transportation infrastructure projects.
