16/12/13: Feed representative receives largest ever donation; basmati rice exports jolted; FDA presents antibiotic voluntary plan

The American Feed industry Association (AFIA) recently announced that the Institute for Feed Education and Research, a US representative of the food and feed production industries, received more than US$80,000 in donations during the American Feed Industry Association’s Equipment Manufacturers Conference in November in Florida, USA.

Indian basmati rice exporters have suffered a jolt as a result of suspended cereal exports, reported the Times of India, an Indian English-language daily newspaper. 

The paper added that the republic is now weighing its options following the withdrawal of sanctions by the US as well as five other nations.

In response to the controversial issue of antibiotic use in animal feed, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced its new voluntary plan with the aim of phasing out the use of certain antibiotics for enhanced food production.

The  document offers advice and  explanations on how animal pharmaceutical companies can work with the agency to voluntarily  remove growth enhancements in drug products.
