13/12/13: Cargill buys stake in Russian grain terminal; expired rice imports in Nigeria; NAMA president joins apple association

US agribusiness giant Cargill recently announced it has purchased a stake in a grain terminal in Russia's port of Novorossiisk in order to bolster its access to export facilities in the Black Sea.

According to the company, it has purchased 25 percent plus one share of indirect interest in the grain terminal Kombinat Stroykomplekt (KSK) from privately held Russian firm Deloports Limited.

Dr Akinwumi Adesina, minister of agriculture and rural development has issued a report into rice imports in Nigeria, Africa.

In an exclusive interview with Nigerian newspaper Leadership,  Dr Adesina said that rice imported from India and Thailand is often expired and therefore unfit for human consumption.

He added that the nation was spending too much money importing rice from Thailand and India despite producing enough rice for consumption.
