09/12/13: Operations at GrainCorp; a 20th century hero; Ukraine's record grain exports

Following Australian federal treasurer Joe Hockey's decision to block a takeover bid by US giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Don Taylor, GrainCorp chairman has admitted the company will now need to sell some unprofitable infrastructure.

José Graziano da Silva, director general, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has commented on the death of anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela.

"We have lost one of the world's passionate defenders of the right to food," he said.

The United Nations has observed Mandela's birthday - 18 July - as Nelson Mandela International Day since 2009.

According to reports by its press office, Ukraine's largest agricultural company Nibulon, has exported 628,645 mt of grain in November 2013, a record high for the company. 

Nibulon announced last Thursday that it has shipped more than 2.44 million mt of grain over the last five months, 45% more than it exported in the same period last year.
