Russia 2013 wheat harvest to total 52.1 million tonnes

According to a July forecast conducted by analysts at the APK-Inform Agency, the general production of wheat in Russia in 2013 is set to reach 52.1 millionn tonnes, an increase of 38.1 percent compared with to last year.

Low-scale losses of winter grain crops in the winter-spring period (nearly 6 percent) led to an increase in the remaining areas of crop compared with the previous season. At the same time, the general planted areas of wheat totaled 25.1 million ha, up 1.7 percent compared with last season, despite a slight decline of the areas under spring grains, analysts said.

According to experts, in terms of expansion of the planted areas, the wheat yield will also rise to 2.22 t/ha, against 1.77 t/ha in the the previous season.

It should be noted that the current results of the harvesting campaign show a 29 percent increase in wheat yields compared with last year.

However, analysts added that the developing unfavorable weather conditions in the major grain-producing regions and results of the harvesting campaign in the Siberian Federal District, could result in significant adjustments to grain harvests forecasts.
