The farm bill debate is causing deep rifts among policy makers

According to James Novak, an Alabama Cooperative Extension System agricultural economist and Auburn University professor of agricultural economics, the farm bill is a long way off a final version of the legislation.

The deep ideological difference that has intensified among policy makers in the last two decades is reflected in the current debates. Professor Novak said in late 2011 the House and Senate Agricultural Committees’ leadership put together a “2011 farm bill” that reportedly would have resulted in modest cuts to farm programs.
